SHOW National Parks

Natchez Trace Parkway is managed by the National Park Service. It is a scenic two lane road that runs from Natchez, MS to just outside of Nashville Tennessee. It includes a the longer Natchez Trace trail and many smaller natural areas all along the length of the parkway.

Last week, my wife and I took Sunday drive from Nashville to Tupelo MS on the parkway. We wish we would have have more time as there were so many beautiful places to see.

It is a nice drive. I have driven most of it. The only section I am missing is from Jackson to the exit for Alcorn State.

The storms rolled through the day before cutting off our intended visit to the Kalbarri National Park, so our visit the next day had to be quick as we had to head south.

This meant we were limited to the Kalbarri Skywalk. Hopefully, we will return soon to do at least an overnight walk into the gorges.

Midway through the week, the Park was inundated by severe smoke pollution from a massive wildfire to the southeast, and by the end of the week, the Park itself was threatened and evacuated. So far the fire has not spread into the park, though three years ago, more than half of the Park was burned by an even larger conflagaration that also burned neighboring towns. (You can see some of the trees on the far side of the lake in this shot were burned, in the 2021 fire.)
