The remains of St Alphege Church in the London Wall, which dates back to approximately 1100 AD and now surrounded by ultra new modern buildings, many of which would easily qualify for this forum's Bad Architecture thread.
Nearby is this old building, the London Charterhouse building dating back to the 14th century. No "remains" here, oh no, this organisation and building remains very much current as you can see.

Hampton Court Palace is a royal palace in the borough of Richmond upon Thames, south-west and upstream of central London on the River Thames. The building of the palace began in 1515 for Cardinal Thomas Wolsey, a favourite of King Henry VIII. In 1529, as Wolsey fell from favour, the cardinal gave the palace to the King to check his disgrace; Henry VIII later enlarged it. Along with St James's Palace, it is one of only two surviving palaces out of the many owned by King Henry VIII.
Millennium Mills in East London, designed and built in 1905, so relatively speaking in the context of this thread, not that old. But it sure looks older, long since derelict and over the last 20 or so years, used by film sets as the scene of some police/ crime drama where the baddies meet up in some urban crime ridden backdrop of London (the area in reality is actually very gentrified and the subject of a 3.5 billion redevelopment scheme however this old building still stands tall amongst all that, dominating the skyline). One of the things I’m going to try and do next year is to get in there with some private tour or other, I’d love to see what it’s like inside now.

Ray, I also find it sadly amusing that official buildings the world over are usually grandiose, but those same officials find it hard to spend money on really important things like public housing, schools and hospitals ...
