A 75-300 doesn't do a bad job, Rose ...
A bit cheaper than the 100-400.
Maybe look for a s/h 100-400?

It’s a fine shot. I like that it’s an environmental portrait; showing the subject in its true habitat. A longer telie would lose much of that. The stream entering upper right might end up looking like the undefined shore of a lake. The foreground vegetation might also be lost. You would have your fine portrait of an individual by giving up a single spoonbill resting at home.
Both are terrific.

I have the 100 - 400, but didn't have it with me. Took it today but the spoonbills were in hiding
