Went to the Sacramento Zoo and ran into this guy again, but I had my long zoom on and it was a bit too long to get him in one shot, so this is kind of a "parts panorama" lol

While hiking on Table Mountain this afternoon, I saw this Black Girdled Lizard (Cordylus Niger) sunning himself - unfortunately only had the phone, but they are quite rare

I was fascinated enough to look him up on Wikipedia...it's found only on Table Mountain, and it evolved to be black to pick up sufficient solar radiation for warmth, as apparently there's not enough sun there otherwise.

My wife once had one of the "regular" armadillo lizards back before people realized that collecting them in the wild was decimating their population 😿 Now they are captive bred only, but very expensive because they don't reproduce well in captivity.

My wife's sand boa again. We were starting to worry because she's small and hadn't eaten in 6 months, but she ate a week or two ago and was hungry again the other day. My wife brought her out for feeding and you can see how much fat is already in her tail. This is not poop, as her cloacal opening is "before" the tail section.

This is an "artier" photo I took the same day:

When I first spotted this turtle today I thought it might be a baby snapper from a spot about 100 feet away from where I saw a snapper laying eggs a few months back. They should be emerging anytime now.

However, after review and consultation, we've concluded this little guy is a Northern Map Turtle, which I personally had never heard of until today. They are mostly harmless, with ducks and baby swans not on their menu. This one is only about two inches long and probably will not grow past 6 or 8 inches.
