Windstone Arch in Valley of Fire State Park, Nevada. It's gone now, destroyed by vandals.

Made a couple of trips there six years ago and took many photos of Windstone...surprised me at first that you had to climb in to get the pix. I have Meunch's book with Windstone on the cover...it inspired my trips to Valley of Fire. Shame about the friggin' vandals!!

Getting the permit is a major pain the a@@. I got mine on my 8th try and felt pretty lucky at that.

Yeah, that was the issue when I was looking to go a couple years ago. That and the 4wd road, but I would’ve tried anyway had I got a permit the day I was nearby.

The road out to Wire Pass Trailhead from the North isn't bad unless it has recently been washed out by a heavy rain. I've seen passenger cars on it doing just fine. Of course, as soon as I were to try it in a passenger car I would probably find a rough stretch I couldn't get through.
