Re: Scaling: Don't. Just post - images will be resized to 1600px on the longest side at the max anyway. It's best to "maximise" (i.e. upload at full size) or resize beforehand; the differences are pretty small. Compression will or will not kick in - it's kind of hard to control by yourself (not really, to be honest). Scaling to smaller sizes will not help in any way because all that'll happen is that people with bigger screens will see a smaller image if you shrink it, bigger images will just be shown with 1600px on the long side.
