Here's an old one of three vessels in the West Mooring Basin. The obvious faux stern wheeler the American Princess, the oil remediation ship Oregon Responder in dark blue and white and a commercial fishing boat, the Northern Ram, heading out from Bornstein's where it offloaded it's catch. Fishing and lumbering, two local industries, are about the most dangerous way you can earn a living in this country. And out here in the Pacific Northwest you'd better be wearing that highly insulated rescue suit if you sink and have to go over the side. If not, you'll probably not be found. The fisherman have an annual crab feed to raise money. It gives six months pay to the family of the lost seaman allowing rent to be paid and food to be bought. The personal loss cannot be fixed with money.

Marina - Lake Granbury - Texas - November 22, 2023

This was shot with a recently acquired Panasonic GF1 converted to IR. I have only had the chance to shoot a few photos with it and I am still learning, but so far, it has been fun to play around with. The lens was a Pana/Leica 15mm 1.7.

I love the shots from your balcony. I remember the shot of the submarine calmly floating by. That was great. I would love to be able to walk out on my balcony and see something like this. If I had a balcony, that is. Great stuff, Irene.

Noticed this parked next door to where I work today. It's the Coast Guard's "Eagle", the US military's only active commissioned sailing vessel. Incredibly, she was Nazi Germany's "SSS Horst Wessel" in a former life. See more here: USCGC Eagle (WIX-327) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

That one's a beaut. Been on it when it was moored here in Astoria, OR. Back in " . . . the days of wooden ships and iron men, . . . " those ships were the norm.

Coming home from dinner out tonight I swung by Bornstein's in the West Mooring Basin in my town, Astoria. I live up above the harbor and can look down at this day and night. This time it was the Ocean Beauty moored, already having offloaded its catch. If you think it is cold on land just imagine being at sea in a blow, pulling net while the wind is whipping spray over you and the temp is in the low 40's or high 30's. Yeah, the romance is gone then. ;o)

This is with the Pixii A2572 and a CV 35mm f/1.4 Nokton II. It was bright enough to land airplanes there tonight. A few tried but were waved off. ;o)
