Good Evening,

I spent an extremely windy Wednesday at the Newport leg of the Ocean Race 2023 (IMOCA Class). The gusts measured more than +30 knots in the morning, causing the cancellation of the speed runs. Fortunately, the winds calmed enough in the afternoon to get three of remaining racers (started out at five) in the waters with sails up. The skipper of the USA boat (11th Hour) is a Newport (RI) native and I was fortunate to meet him and his crew, a very energetic bunch for sure. I will be back this Sunday for the sail out for the next leg to the Hague then on to Genova. The extendible "wings/foils" actually help to lift the forward 1/3 of the hull out of the water (at speed) and increases the speed significantly.

Regards,

Edd

I completely missed your post at the time, @Roboticspro - cool to see them with their sails up!
Seeing it now reminds me that we had the contestants in our harbour during February this year
