Magpie beaks are pretty flaming deadly, Ian.
I watched what can only be described as a ritual execution of a starling by a magpie, where the magpie attacked the starling with both feet and claws as it took off, then stabbed it multiple times as it held it down.
This was at Marengo. The huge flock of starlings (introduced pest species) had been harassing the family of magpies for some days before this occurred. The starlings stopped doing that ...
