We had a similar program in the US called S&H Green Stamps. The program ran from 1896 to the late 1980s.
Wow, that's a heck of a long time!
Apparently the Brit version ran from the late 50's to the late 90's, though I can only remember it from the late 60's and early 70's.
That's when I got my first car and quite a few garage gave the stamps out when buying petrol.
There was a bit of a rivalry between local garages, with some offering double, triple or even quadruple stamps.
