The old Tatra commercial sign on one of the residential buildings of Berlin's Karl-Marx-Str. still stands today. I like the battered look with the fading colors. A Classic Neg based recipe was fitting.

That's the one indeed, yes. You should be able to find quite some photo opportunities there, especially if you would be interested in soviet-era architecture.

I've been to Berlin most years since 1996, and I fully agree. The whole of Friedrichshain offers tons of interesting sights, but Berlin in general is a fantastic place to photograph.
Street is less easy, though - many people take issue with having cameras pointed at them even in a very general manner. Obviously, that's not the case in the most touristy places - but tourists aren't my favourite subject matter, to say the least.
