Is Greymouth near Hokitika? The name seems familiar from my two readings of The Luminaries.Facsimile of an advertisement appearing in the New Zealand West Coast Times of April 1884. It is on display at Shantytown, a heritage village near Greymouth in the South Island. The village recreates a 19th century pioneer village, being inspired by the gold rush of the 1860s. An interesting place to visit. Nice vintage train ride in the bush and activities such as gold panning.

I was a little bit "WTF" with the sign here. I think it means "ring 3", a major motorway. Another sign down the road used a more conventional symbol for the same thing.

I hate to have to disagree, but this is "Bärndütsch", so "äuä" isn't "aua", but "allwäg", which means something along the lines of "oh, really!" or "really" (as an affirmative). Swiss German is a mystery all by itselfView attachment 279219
