Charles, this year it seems to me that spring arrived about one month earlier than usual. Yet I see very few insects (including butterflies).

Only 2 days ago I spotted 2 pairs of brimstone butterflies here, the first of this year. But very few insects otherwise. I put out sunflower seeds and fatballs every day for our garden birds, to help them along, as it were!

Seems insect numbers are waaay down. The program "Winter Watch" says 60% down in UK. Probably the same here. Fruit trees aren't getting pollinated...no fruit.
My data is not scientific.. Remember when you got home from a road trip and the windshield was slimed? And remember to keep your mouth shut when on your bike? Just not happening anymore. Kinda scary

That's one of the concerns post Gabrielle here - lots of beehives lost in addition to already low numbers of insects.
