Charles, this year it seems to me that spring arrived about one month earlier than usual. Yet I see very few insects (including butterflies).
Only 2 days ago I spotted 2 pairs of brimstone butterflies here, the first of this year. But very few insects otherwise. I put out sunflower seeds and fatballs every day for our garden birds, to help them along, as it were!

But very few insects otherwise.
Seems insect numbers are waaay down. The program "Winter Watch" says 60% down in UK. Probably the same here. Fruit trees aren't getting pollinated...no fruit. :(
My data is not scientific.. Remember when you got home from a road trip and the windshield was slimed? And remember to keep your mouth shut when on your bike? Just not happening anymore. Kinda scary

People in general don't pay enough attention to insects. When pollinators are gone, humans won't be around much longer either.

Spring in the first lock down 2020..hope this year's bloom is as good! (The stray Harrogate)
