These funky colors weren't maybe exactly this funky in reality (although not terribly off the point). I am going to let the camera have its AWB fun.
At 25 sec and f/8, you can imagine it was very difficult to focus in such dim conditions, especially when my lens was slower than f/4 at this zoom level. Optical focus impossible and digital live view was also at its very limits for the camera. To my great surprise the trunk is focused.
To make these properly you'd probably go hang a modeling light next to your subject to be able to focus.
