Nature Show "Winter"

Hopefully our last blast of real winter. After two miserably cold months, it's supposed to be into the 40's and even 50's every day next week. Unlike our friends in New England, we haven't had a lot of snow this winter - just a few inches here and there - just lots of very cold days and lots of freezing rain and ice. This last snow looks to be the biggest of the season, with a projected 6-8", which we're closing in on already with several more hours of snow to come. Kind of fun to have an actual snowstorm, so long as it's not one after another after another, as we had last year and New England has had in spades this year. So I'm enjoying this, but will enjoy next week a lot more - hopefully warm enough to go out and do some real shooting again...

We're about an inch away from the all-time seasonal snowfall record (we've shattered the single month record, and coldest February records already). At this point ... I want the trophy.
You all have earned it. Whether you get that last inch or not, I can't imagine getting as much snow as you have in such a short period, even if it falls just short of the seasonal high. We've had some tough years where it just never seems to stop snowing, but we rarely get more than a foot or 15 inches at a time. I remember one 30" dump several years ago and three 15-24" dumps within about a month a few years ago, but not even close the sheer volume of what you folks have dealt with this year... I'm actually enjoying that we're getting a nice dump today - that wouldn't have been the case in those years where it just never seemed to stop...

I think the count is up to about 105 or 106 inches, with the record a little over 107? And the ground was bare until the last week of January. Was snowing again this morning.

Same here in WV. Second coldest Feb ever. At the end of Jan we were talking about this being our driest Winter ever, with a total of 2.5" of snow since October. As of today, we are over 40" for the season. Not a lot by other standards, but for us, it is quite a bit. Our average Winter total is usually around 24".

Tomorrow is gonna start a massive melt and I suspect all of this snow will be gone within about three days, but today was cold and beautiful, so a chance to walk around town and get some shots in the aftermath of our one big storm... It's a lovely little town, even more so with a blanket of snow...
