Sigma Sigma DP Series Image Thread

Hunted down and shot a bunch of G Men today. Managed to find 18 of the 25 (but won't show them all).

a few at iso 1250 DP2 Merrill

I know the Foveon sensors are not at their best at high iso, and to shoot them that way was not the reason I got the camera. Still, if you are out with one camera and a low light situation that you want to photograph presents itself, it's good to know what your personal limits are for that camera. People will have different levels of acceptability. I feel the Merrill is golden to iso 400, and I would not hesitate to use it for color work up to 800, which I did not feel I could use with the DP2S. So there is definite improvement in the Merril versions of these cameras. Black and white is a different matter, since using the color sliders weighted toward the blue channel, as Amin outlined in a previous post, can get you good results even as high as 3200.

The shots below where shot at 1250, and then developed in Sigma Photo Pro. I felt their algorithms for banding would serve the files well. I used no luminance noise reduction in SPP and reduced chroma and banding treatment to one notch up. Using the default setting would have given a mushy, useless file with not detail -- a smudgy painterly looking tiff. I changed the WB and adjusted color and made other preliminary changes in SPP then imported the 16 bit tiff thus obtained into Lightroom to finish up my working file. As always, I did my fine tuning in Photoshop, where I feel more comfortable working a final version.

So, without further ado, the DP2 Merrill at 1250. For my money, the iso is useable at smaller sizes, though at pixel level it does not hold the impressive detail of the Foveon at lower iso.

Got my DP1 Merrill the other day :)
Of course the weather is absolutely awful here, and it's dark when I get home from work anyway, so I haven't actually been able to give it a proper test run.

Since my fish tank is right next to the computer I decided to see if I could get anything good with the DP1, closeup filters (Canon 250D and 500D stacked) and a remote triggered flash from above.
My red bristlenose pleco "Spiky" after I lured him out with some food. I'm quite impressed with the details in the full

Dear all,

I intend buy a flash for sigma dp 2 merril. Any recommendation? Does Sigma EF610 DG ST Flash for Sigma compatible? Look forward your reply soon.
From Vietnam guys who love sigma'photo

I have no first hand experience with using that flash but several comments indicate that it does and doesn't (one said it works, the other said sometimes it won't fire and often the camera won't recognize the flash). The 3 that will work are the Sigma EF-140 DG SA-STTL Flash, Metz 20 C-2 and Nikon SB-30. Others may have more options/opinions. Maybe this will give you more info:

Sigma DP merrill cameras

Sigma doesn't list it as compatible, look under resources, view details:

Metz 36 C-2 also works. It's somewhat larger than the 20 C-2, a lot more powerful, and recycles much faster as it uses 4 batteries.
