Much as I obviously should support trisberg's perfect suggestion - ;) - I have to say I really support the idea of a collage ... I am simply not selfless enough to someone else's (better) photograph staring out at me from the cover day-in, day-out ...
 
Instead of different sizes and orientations why not submit two images re-cropped to squares

I think that could affect the composition that the photographer based the photo on. Some photos lend themselves to a square format while many others don't. I know that I will use a square, or 1 to 1, composition on certain subjects, but most of mine fit a landscape, or portrait, composition much better most of the time.

Just my thoughts on this,
