Single In Single in September (SiS) 2023 - day 17

Meeeeeat! Alright, just a slab of beef but a prime cut, de-boned, de-fatted a little bit and ready to be roasted and devoured later today. If you've been brought up eating an animal "head to tail" (a hipster way of saying offal), then cuts like this are appreciated even more so. First time using flash with this camera too - weather outside is awful.

I "Hmmmm"ed this one because I very nearly posted something quite similar but then discarded it due to it maybe being too gory or offensive to those who don't eat meat
I was out and about with the Nikon today, but since my SIS camera is a Fuji, I needed to rack my brains to come up with something to snap for today before light faded.
My daughter was busy rearranging and defrosting the freezer and had placed a lot of meat onto the floor. I can post that image in the out-takes, actually

Funny you should say that, pretty much every vegetarian I know, and there's quite a few, don't seem to mind the sight of meat and often encourage me not to hold back in ordering what I want. I should probably check to see if it is offensive if there's anyone I don't know in my vicinity who is vegetarian.

I lived with a vegetarian long enough to know they can become quite... sensitive, let's say ... about it. He used to guilt me at every mouthful

Still sleeping today.

SIS day 17 Benches by the lake.

This at one of our parks in Red Deer and is quite a popular place for the geese throughout their time here in the spring/summer. We have seen moose, deer, squirrels and all manner of birds and wildlife wandering about. I would imagine the geese are getting ready to fly south before the snow flies.

Rain and brain drain for me today. I was going through some old item boxes looking for some coins I found crawling under a mansion (work) and came across this and a few other stones I picked up on the beach from an old man in Thailand back in the 70's I figured they might be fake but the guy really seemed more like a man who may have worked in a mine than a hustler . I also bought some opals in Sri Lanka and have one good sized one left but gave the others to the love of my life at the time whom I can only remember by the name of Hedy which I am pretty sure was a nickname. BTW. I have never tried to photo a faceted item it's hard to pick a focus point.

Didn't sleep well, slept late, spent a lot of time on the phone with my sisters (Sunday is call day), did some cleaning and vacuumed. Then spent time trying to figure out the right angles to the dangles to get a clear image of the new watch face with no reflections or low contrast from lighting. It's going to be a bear. Didn't like the image as taken, so heavy crop and a lot of cleanup of dust I couldn't see when shooting.

I've been veggie for 4 years now. I have no problem with anyone else eating meat, but I have to admit that the sight of raw meat now makes me a little queasy.

Driving home this morning I passed by an old spring house. This was a water point that, during the early settling of our area (early by northern Wisconsin standards, a blink of an eye by Euro standards :ROFLMAO: ) was rather important. Then this building was built in 1923. It was cleaned up a few years back and the sign placed on it warning people that, unfortunately, you can no longer safely drink here.

Beckey in this case was the family name.

It is maintained as a historical site. View attachment 412762
Did some online research during downtime at work tonight and found that the spring was closed to use in the late 1950's, because of a bacteria called coliform, meaning diseases like E. Coli could be found. Generally, in this area, that's due to too many septic systems leeching into the water table and not enough natural filtration. After that, people stopped using the spring. As of a water test in 2019 conducted by the Eau Claire City-County Health Department, the water is still unsafe to drink.

Just thought it was useful to know.
