Single In Single in September (SiS) 2023 - day 30

SIS day 30 Troubled Monk

The Troubled Monk brewery is in downtown Red Deer and produces a range of craft beers which are very good. I was quite surprised by how much it has expanded in the last couple of years.

Thanks to you, Dave, Red Deer is now firmly ensconced in the short list of places-in-North-America-that-I-really-want-to-visit - and when I do, my first stop will be at the Troubled Monk! (Damn! what a great name for a brewpub)

Day 30
My entry for this final 30th day of a very cool SiS was at least partially inspired by Rob's (@Robot) and Martin's (@theoldsmithy) images featuring the number 30 so creatively. This is the calendar in my kitchen, with the last day of this month... and a tiny antique visitor whose enigmatic look is, I hope, a harbinger of interesting things to come for the rest of this year.

Also, my real thanks and appreciation to one and all of those who have participated in this SiS, and whose visions have continually surprised and inspired me.

I am glad to have participated but also glad it’s over. It’s been fun seeing what everyone came up with each day. Many wonderful photos from some amazingly talented photographers.

My wife has especially enjoyed watching from the sidelines. The day’s postings have been the first thing she looks at each morning and she is already eagerly looking forward to April. Personally, I am happy April also has only 30 days.

We will close with the East Jordan and Southern engine on display ‘downtown’.

I have been using the micro four thirds Sigma 56mm f1.4. I bought it originally to use at high school basketball games in fairly small gyms. It works well for that. After this month I'm liking it a lot for other subjects. Today I cheated a little by adding a Raynox 250 for a closeup of a sunflower that we're drying. Some of the seeds will be eaten, and some planted in the spring.

Is this a good picture? 🤷‍♂️ I did use this month to try a few different things ,a # of times I had backup safety shots in case I failed IMO ,I will post my safety shot in outakes .I am trying to force myself to shoot in a way that I find interesting. I found Marlof's work very inspirational to keep on trying.I get it that this may not be a good picture but I am curios would the reaction be the same if my name was Edward Weston? Thanks to Moon mind for another round of Single in...

Thanks Miguel, we have two others breweries in town called Sawback Brewing and Belly Hop Brewing so there is plenty to keep you occupied if you do visit plus another one out at Lacombe which is just up the road from Red Deer.

If you do come up let me know and we can have a Cameraderie meet up around the pubs etc.

There I was, walking along, and something caught my attention. I looked up, and above me was this odd-looking light floating in the evening sk... oh. Nevermind, it's the overhead kitchen light's globe.

It's been fun, but I'm glad it's over. My mind has been mush the last 2 days.

So this afternoon I ended up at a large antique mall, with hundreds of vendor booths full of various antiques and collectibles. At one point I came around a corner and had that weird feeling of someone watching me. Turned out to just be this questionably attired mannequin, though she gave me a bit of a start when we first locked eyes. Thanks everyone for a very fun month - it was awesome seeing everyone's images and peeking into your lives just a little bit.

I shot this setup very early in the challenge. I attempted to make it appear like a working site. Then... I left the toys to sit untouched for the month to watch the rains smooth out the sand.

Today the toys will get hosed, off the grader will go back in the basement where its been for years. The salvaged roller? Not sure. It's got awesome patina - rust and moss, yet the unseen side still has faded bits of its original Tonka roller decal.

A good picture? You decide. Personally I l find it interesting and like it. Art is so darn subjective and I've had pictures that I really liked fall flat in the online world. On the flip side I've had pics that I consider throw it at the wall and see if it sticks quality some love.
