Single In Single in September (SiS) 2023 - day 4

I was going to hang around and wait for a golden hour shot and as you can see it was going to end up that way but hey, there's another 26 days of this to go so maybe some other time. This'll do. Greenwich Park, London is nice during (this late) summer but IMO is nicer when covered in snow. I could have done some editing on this image but that wouldn't be in the spirit of things with this camera and there's only so much you can do with these lower megapickled jpeg only files.

I really love this shot - and the effect as well. It has a 'painterly' quality to it (a good thing, in my opinion). A number of great photographers (and cinematographers, too) speak of photography as 'painting with light', or talk glowingly (pun intended) about finding the right light for a subject or an image. This photo has a very intriguing illumination to me... and a lot of other things going on in it, as well. It's really cool, Marlof.

Had set aside a couple of hours before proper dusk, but quite a lot of that was used up by doing an "emergency" delivery of some stuff son# 2 forgot yesterday, so the sun was seriously setting when I arrived at my site of choice for the evening.

I broke the premise of the challenge today, by shooting two cameras and lenses, the E-PL3 with the Panasonic Leica 15mm and a E-PM1 with the Oly 17mm f:2.8.

These were mostly shot side by side, to try figuring out if the Oly lens had issues and I think I can conclude that it has, it seems that the AF in the lens is only acquiring proper focus about 50% of the time, the rest it is slightly out of overall focus, producing mushy images. When it finds its proper focus, it is a decent little thing. Not sure how I will continue the challenge, but the 17 mm is on the shelf, the options I have now is the Lumix 14 and 20 mm or the PL 15 mm. Most keen to pursue the challenge with a pancake, but that P-L is rather lush, even if it is big(ish) compared to the others.

Day 4
A relatively close angle on this ancient (50's vintage) older GMC pickup truck which sits alongside the road in a neighboring town.

Shot using the GX9's built-in Red filter effect, to darken the skies. This particular shot was my favorite among several angles I took today, which I'm posting in the Outtakes thread.

Today was another day where I set out intending to make a specific image (not this one) of a specific subject, but then found something I liked better upon arrival. As I was getting out of the car to make the photo I had pre-visualized, I noticed this old birdhouse about 5 meters from the subject to which I was headed. The birdhouse was mounted on the back of a deep-red sign (which welcomes visitors to our city's dog park). I wish I had found this birdhouse earlier, as it appears to have once been covered in a map of some sort. While I still photographed the thing I went to this location to shoot, I just took a couple snapshots of that...I'll revisit it at a different time of day another time.

So, quick change of subject. The parent of the child I originally posted withdrew their permission for me to post it (I never post kids without the approval of parents). So now you get my kid. Not as good a photo but still fun.

Sunday night sleepover made possible by the Labor Day holiday in the US led to breakfast hi-jinks with whipped cream.

None of my earlier shots produced nothing with which I was happy. Amazing how so much manmade and natural stuff has been placed in location that absolutely eliminate possibility of clean shots. Oh well.

Didn't think I had read so much so far this year. Most are re-reads (multiples times) and the new once-read books are the two on the right. I have one or two more chapters each left of Blind Man's Bluff and Travels With Charley. Upcoming reading is posted in the outtakes thread.

Ah Gordon, there are some excellent selections here. Grew up reading all the Robert Heinlein books I could find. And the Stephen Hawkins titles are classic science. Plus the Pentax Mono renders them nicely.
