Day 3 outtake
Almost the same shot as my official entry, but this one was taken at f/5.6 - which makes much more of the shot quite crisp, including the words written on the page. In the other (f/2.8) version, the pen remains sharp, but the words are soft...and something about that worked better for whichever arcane part of my brain was trying to make up my mind and pick one.

Todays outtake, I like this quite a bit but the technical quality is... under par. I may be somewhat spoilt in regards of malleability of the files, but the combo I am shooting currently is not bringing me much joy and put my PP skills to the test just to end up with at best mediocre output.

Adding the VF-2 at least let me compose decently, so I have taken that out of the fault loop. I think I will go from natural to vivid in the camera setting to see if that may sort something out, according to some reviews, the 17 mm may have low contrast issues among other stuff.

I think I will bring with one of the E-PM-1s with the either the PL15 or the Lumix 20mm tomorrow, shooting the same motifs with that and see how that fares. The sensor in those are the same as in the E-PL3.

I also enjoy this combination. My E-PL3 has cracks on the screen but works fine. I have a silver and a black 17 2.8 because, you know, it has to match the body.

Day 3 Alternate, and actually the only other photo I took today besides my daily photo. High stress day with little time to grab a camera. This was snapped during a quick visit to Target to get cleaning supplies.

One sure-fire way to lower stress on any day would be to buy a Bob Ross action figure, complete with paintbrush, and set it up in a prominent place in your dwelling... Guaranteed to make things flow a bit more, and not just paint.

I like the size and handling, but am rather unimpressed with the results. Will dig further into the settings and such. As per now, there is something in this combo that's not working for me and it nags me.

Both camera and lens has last version firmware, settings in the camera is somewhat on par with what I usually use on my Olys, so the system should be reasonable on par, but the results are not and I am not a pixel peeper by any means and normally is quite content with the output even on small sensor cameras.

The only other camera I have that I am a bit leery towards is the TZ70, which output is somewhat similiar to what I get out of this combo. A very un-scientific test just now, with the OM-1, seems to indicate that the lens may not be properly focusing all of the time. I will make some further, a bit more "formal" tests.

I actually like them both (your outtake and your official Day 3 post) quite a lot. I would be hard pressed to say which I preferred... but this is a great 'outtake', Gordon.

Thanks Miguel - looking at them after being up and about today, I could have been happy with either. For some reason, at zero dark thirty the board version fit the bill.

That white blanket covering the wife's jeep hardtop in the background was quite annoying. Back in college photography days when B&W was king my favorite pictures were ones that had both pure black and pure white with a nice range of grays in between. It seems that that ethos lives on in my mind. And it's a rare moment that the Candy Alpine Blue on the old Suzuki can be captured accurately. It really is a lovely color despite the failing clearcoat on my 37 year old cycle.

If you don't mind my sharing, I wonder about your copy of the lens. This is one of my favorite examples with my then E-PL1, VF-3 & the Oly 17/2.8:

I never had the issues you seem to be having.
Quite contrary, it is much appreciated and helps toward the conclusion that there is something not entirely right with my combo. Based of the basic tests I did yesterday with the OM-1 and the 17mm, I think the lens may be a goner or at best unstable in focusing.

Am on my way out now and will shot the PL15 on the PL-3 and the 17 mm on a PM-1 that I know works, so I will see how that shoot fares.
