Recently, Cameraderie.org is being blocked at work - reason given as 'falls into category: SPAM URLs'. Anyone else seen this?
Amin - something to look at?

I had a stay in hospital a couple of years ago. The in-house (in-bed) Internet access blocked Serious Compacts along with almost every form of social media including Pistonheads and Mumsnet (don't ask...) the problem is a blacklist of filter words that is often used - lazily - to "protect" the user.

I suspect that using a term such as "gear porn" is enough to trigger the autonannies. I certainly know of an instance where using the name of a particular Northern English town was responsible for one of my employees having his emails to them blocked by an over-zealous public sector server. The irony was the town in question was where he was working for them on assignment...

... In fact, thinking about it, even my using the word "assignment" may be enough to get us blocked...

Usually companies rely upon Internet Proxies (which among other things protects the interior business network from being directly connected to the big bad World Wide Web), and to control what people can get to on the WWW, they use an integrated, sometimes separate Internet Content Filter system. That Filter is not so smart, it relies mostly on human, manual intervention and categorization to tell it what to allow and not allow through. For a while everything that Amin ran (all the camera sites) were completely blocked at my employer's network (sadness). Fast forward a few years later, and huzzah, it's unblocked. I didn't have the stones to ask for it to be cleared either. :D So someone must have done a scrub somewhere. You'll need to do the same.
