The seaside city of Choshi in eastern Japan is supposed to be a semi-big town of 50k. My impression was at the time there was maybe 5000 residents max.

Seems like every small town has its alleys. And half of them are dirt, unpaved. The kinds of places neighborhood kids love to play in, or ride their bikes down. Or splash through the huge mud puddles after the recent rains.

You will not find a prettier - or smaller - town in Victoria. Walhalla has a permanent population of around 20 (Twenty!) residents, but around 2,000 visitors per day during peak season. Whenever that is.

And every tire store has a space, usually out in back, reserved for truly dead tires.
