Sony Sony A1 mk2

I've given some thought to it. If I sold my cameras it would put a pretty good dent in the cost, but I like my A7Riii too much to part with it. Mainly for the smaller file sizes which my computer can handle just fine.

The R3 was my first Sony FF and I do miss it. It was a great camera and even with the rolling shutter, I could still get quite a number of flight shots of birds.

Not worth it to me. There aren't enough new features to warrant a move. Other than the pre-capture (which Sony could easily add to the Mk I with firmware) there isn't anything I want. The faux AI focus doesn't add much. Train recognition?

Still the same sensor, same EVF. The screen went from 1.4M dots to 2M, but I don't use the screen much anyway, because of that the new 10-way flippy screen doesn't intrigue me either although I can see it's use. It will be interesting to see how much the new processor adds to the operation, but 30 frames per second? Already have it. Dual Type A Express/SD card slots? Already have it. The Mk I already has the vast majority of features.

I will say I am very surprised Sony released it at the same price as the Mk I. The fact that it's already pushed prices on the Mk I down $1,000 may be the single best feature of the Mk II!

Let's be honest, the A1 is already a ridiculously capable camera and more than most of us (myself included) need. The fact that after almost 4 years on the market Sony saw fit to make only mid-type upgrades instead of releasing a whole new camera is proof.

Bear in mind the A1 has Lossless Compressed RAW, the A7R III does not. It reduces the files sizes by about 35-40%, smaller than that of the A7R III. I haven't shot Uncompressed Raw for many months. With the Mk 1 prices already down $1k, that'd be a move worth considering.

Generally, I see the knockout A1 pictures posted here and having regard to the fact you users have clearly mastered the camera's functions as well as the output of the camera/ lenses, wonder whether, in practical terms, whether any of you actually need this upgrade.

Need? What are you insane?!! 🤣

You know, the A1 for me was a consolation prize. I watched for Sony’s release of the A9 III, hoping it would be a 40 +/- MP camera with more speed than my A7 IV. Like the others here I loved the sensor in the A7R III, but it lacked the latest AF and other features. It also has a very slow readout speed. Had the A9 III been that it would’ve been my choice, as it was expected to be a couple thousand dollars less than the A1. Then Sony drops the A9 III as it is and I said the heck with it and bought the A1.

The next release is expected to be the A7 V. Sony typically uses their sensors in two iterations , so I expect it will have the A7 IV sensor, but if by some chance the A7 V is upgraded with regard to speed and MP, I will probably sell both my A7 IV and A1 and get two of them.

Well I was late to buy into the a1 mk1 in fact January this year, so far I don`t think it has been a massive jump forward for me terms of my wants compared to my old a9 mk1 which I have had since 2019 and still love and use. I probably wont switch to the mk2 anytime soon, I am sure I have not got the best from the a1 yet, and still of the opinion that high quality glass will improve shots from pretty much any camera available regardless of brand or specs
