Sony sony a230

Hi I got a Sony A230 for free. All I had to do was pick it up and buy a battery for it. I can't get an exact life expectancy for the shutter 50k or 20k. It is an oldie circa 2009 and the Nikon D70 is rated at 50k. It came out in 2004. I contacted Sony Ca, nada. Does anyone know what I'm supposed to get out of this thing? I know it depends on hard shooting vs soft shooting. Continuous vs single mode etc.

ps. I like the way the sensor renders, so I'm going to shoot her til she dies. Pun intended.

the current count is 4,790 and it's a ccd sensor

Thanks

I bought one new in late 2009 and, by the time I sold it, I'd taken over 11K images. I gave up on it in mid-2016 and by then the shutter was starting to act up. (IIRC, it started giving me trouble in late 2010, but I did not see it as a pattern at that time.) What would happen is that when shooting, I'd hear the mirror moving but the shutter wasn't opening, so I'd get just a null (dark) image. In total, this happened to me probably between 5 and 10 times, and it was random. A friend bought it from me and it was still working when I saw him a few weeks ago, though I suspect he isn't using it much.

I did ask someone about it at a camera shop, and the person there suspected that a lubricant was starting to get stiff. The advice was to not let it sit unused for too long, i.e., pull it out at least once every few months and trip the shutter a few times. It is the case that there were some long periods of inactivity when I owned it.

All of this to say that I think it should have some life in it still and, based on my experience with one unit, that it may fail very gradually rather than suddenly. My guess, however, is that the rated life expectancy is probably closer to 20K than 50K.

If you enjoy using it but would like higher resolution, you may be able to pick up an A290 inexpensively, which would take you from 10M to 16M.
