Nikon Spots?

So I posted an image yesterday and was gently informed that there were spots on it that I hadn't noticed. So I ran the sensor cleaning cycle (I have it set to do it on start and shutdown but it seems to run much longer when invoked.) I also cleaned the lenses I had used for the previous images.

This morning I went outside to test it and took a couple of images of sky.

This first one looks good.

Argh. What is my next step?

At some point you need to use a wet cleaner on the sensor.

I use this brand for my full-frame cameras:

But for this one spec- I would set the camera to "sensor clean mode" where the shutter opens up for a cleaning, and use a good blower.
Some people use the "Sticky Sticks" for cleaning- which I should try at some point. I've gotten away with cleaning the sensor every couple of years.

Not canned air I presume, just one of those bulbs?

I use a Rocket Blower, and do not use canned air.

Sometimes the only thing that works is a wet swab..

I have found a kit on Amazon for APS-C with swabs and blower. Glad Payday is Friday :thanks for the info folk. I appreciate it.

You're getting a spot this sharp at f/2? Worrisome...

My method for testing for spots is to set the lens at infinity, stop it down, then take a picture of the inside of a lamp shade up close. The idea is that dust/grime is on the front of the filter stack.

Shooting the lens at F2 and Infinity- a small dark spot will show up as a big and diffuse spot.

Hrm. Got a cleaning kit. Followed the instructions and did the cleaning process twice (once dry swab, once wet) but I still have that spot there. This is getting annoying. Sigh.
