Panasonic Strange behaviour with Panasonic LX-5

I have the LX-5, and as expected, I have switch on the camera with the lens cap on, and sure enough, the message on the back of the screen says to switch off first take off the cap then switch on the camera.

I have access to another LX-5, and I find that when I switch the camera on with the lens cap in place, it tells me to take off the lens cap and hit any key, and sure enough, the camera continues its initialization and ready to take picture! I check the version of the firmware, and both were ver 1.0!

Has anybody try this? It looks like my LX-5 may have a somewhat older firmware but don't have the need to switch off then on...

Hi Robert

Welcome to serious compacts.

I often forget to take my cap off the lens when firing up the LX5 but its no big problen to me as I also get the message to take the cap off and then hit any key, after which I am good to shoot. My firmware version is 1.0. I got my LX5 around October 2010.

Welcome,
My LX5 did the same activity as Briar's.
I got the collapsing lens cap from eBay and that solved that issue.
It's nice to have both of you here.

Looks like I have an older version, which prompt me to switch off the camera then switch on. A recent one shows me to take off the cover, then hit any button to continue.

Hi Robert. Welcome. MY LX3 has always just given me the 'remove the lens cap' message. Seems very strange they would put a 'turn the camera off' message on with any firmware. I suppose both options are better than having the lens push it off.

Thanks for confirming that there are 2 version of the LX-5, the first being the requirement to switch off, take off the cap then switch it on, the second being take of the cap and press any button to continue. I am going to check out those caps that is auto, ie push out the cap, and close back when the camera is switched off.

BTW, I haven't properly introduce myself, my name is Robert and I already have 2 m4/3 cameras ( GF1 and EPL1 ) which are great but too big for daily walk around. They are there when I need to get better quality, but at least I feel that the LX5 is pretty good quality already for good light pictures. I am a Lurker, that is I go to seriouscompacts.com regulary but not posting anything...

Thanks

Robert
