I can almost smell those lilacs
I found this barn swallow trapped in an outhouse at Red Rock Lakes National Wildlife Refuge in Montana. It had gotten into the outhouse and the door had closed on it. It was sitting on a window sill and, judging by the poop on the floor, had been there a few days. It was waiting to die. I took it out and put it on a little wood platform that was in the adjoining picnic ground. I tore off the bottom of a paper cup and gave it water in the cup. It took a few drinks and I left. I came back to that spot a couple of hours later and it was still on the platform, but it seemed to have perked up. It let me take some pictures with my macro lens before it flew away.
