Switching from Canon to Sony

Hey y’all!

I’m Alesia and I’m a wife, mom, and business owner with 10 associates. Our main clientele is couples that are getting married so we tend to do lots of weddings.

Our website for reference: www.alesiakimandco.com

I have associates that work for me as well but I do all the editing so I see lots of different color styles/white balance with different cameras. I’ve been a canon user since college (which is now about 10 years.)

In the past 6 months to a year, I’ve been super unsatisfied with my edits (they look flat and colorless) and actually “changed my style” because of it but last year in October, a friend who shoots with Sony a7iii, agreed to swap sessions with me but I edit them.

I was blown away at how easy they were to edit when it came to the coloring but figured it was just great lighting and backgrounds that day.

Fast forward about 6 months and she shoots a wedding with me. The colors on the photos are AMAZING! Like I barely even have to edit them.

She let me try her camera out (she switched from canon about 3 years ago) and I did a session with her sony and have been super happy with it! The settings are different of course but that just comes with time.

Has anyone made the switch from canon to Sony and how do you feel about it now?

Welcome Alesia!
I didn't switch from Canon but rather from Nikon. I've been shooting Sony's for a number of years now.
As you can see, I'm 'all in' on Sony cameras/lenses.
I do like the colors they produce too.

Interesting this should pop up as my wife and I are visiting family in Baton Rouge this week. 😎

I've been neither a Canon or Sony user so I can provide nothing constructive to the conversation!

Welcome to Camaraderie.

I think it may depend on the editing software you use as well. I’m a little surprised to hear that, as I was just talking with a friend who’s a wedding photographer and uses Sony, and she is upset with how Adobe handles Sony colors. I’ve also seen this pop up on YouTube and elsewhere, with similar accusations of how Adobe doesn’t know how to deal with Sony colors unless a bunch of settings are changed before importing them. I think it has something to do with it converting them to an Adobe color space maybe? Anyway, usually most folks rave about “Canon colors”, so just a bit surprising! But whatever works! Welcome to the forum.
