Take care and be safe those in the UK

Hey everyone,

I know we have quite a few members from the UK, like myself, so I just wanted to wish everyone safety and to take care if you're visiting any of the major cities - due to the major rioting, violence and looting.

I didn't realise it was so bad until today. Saw this and it looks like a warzone:

Be safe everyone

Edit:

Hey everyone, I should have considered that this topic might get emotional and political replies, but please do stick to the site rules and terms of service - which are intended maintain the closely knit, friendly spirit of the forums

Yeah thanks Vince, It's really bad out there. Mindless thugs that use a poor excuse to ruin other peoples lives and put people at risk. I don't know if you saw that large furniture store go up in flames last night in Croydon? That store has been there for over 100 years and is a landmark of Croydon. Not only was it completely engulfed in flames but the heat set light to the houses opposite and to the tram tracks. Very very sad.

My heart goes out to those affected and hope these criminals get caught and prosecuted.

Words fail me so I better not express my views too strongly

at least I now live in a country where the police, (the French CRS), would have been allowed to use far more robust measures to deal with such violence and protect society

the rule of law has been totally compromised by small groups of (mainly) teenage thugs and no matter what the police do, (too much or too little presence), they will always been criticised by the people that run our inner Cities.

"The Law of the Jungle" now prevails and it will take years for this to be forgotten

My sympathy, (and support), goes out to the UK police offers who are tasked by our "political" masters to do an "impossible" job

I really wish the police could use plastic bullets. When you consider the upset, fear and cost of what these thugs are doing I don't think it's too harsh to bring the scum down so they can be dealt with. We are too soft on these types of people, far too soft. I also fully support the police and hope they get a chance to stop this mindless violence.

The French police, (CRS), would have used, water canon and tear gas when the situation became worse - this would have been backed up by strong physical action as necessary - the French Police would have been supported in their actions by the French population and the Government at local as well as national level.

What's so great about a statement from one of our politicians "We have never used water canon on the British mainland" - when will they get real and stop living in their Ivory, (suburban) Towers.

My daughter lives in Wandsworth Town - a few miles from Clapham

They wanted a 'multicultural Britain' against the wishes of the indigenous population who, of course, were NOT granted the right to vote on the matter by 'the mother of paliaments'.........

.......Now they've got it.

The Police cannot physically attack any rioter, “god forbid” cause him any physical harm unless they can distinguish his “race”. These days, the police have to be extremely careful when dealing with “young blacks” as if they do the “race card” is played and compensation claims are made. Support is given to them by the inner city “ethnic” majority local government officials who are overly represented because of the socialist party’s, (the last government and now Her Majesty’s opposition), obsession with “political correctness”. Such cannot distinguish between a "young thug" and a genuine case.
An army of PC, (politically correct), lawyers will descend upon the police without regard to “guilt or innocence” and even if the “criminals” are found guilty the punishment will be minor.
Britons, “of all races” are not allowed to protect themselves as if they do they are regarded as criminals.
When you have “poor management” the results are always the same.
The "professional thieves" - black and white, are now moving in under the cover of the chaos
The good people of the UK, of all colours, will suffer and the criminals “know” that any punishment, under the toothless British legal system, will be minor

How can we police The Olympics when we cannot safeguard "our streets"

That’s inner city British life today and the end is “nigh”

They are doing it mostly because they have discovered that they can get away with it. Since there isn't great support for them from the community at large it will slowly simmer down. A bit of heavy rain for a few nights would help. Lessons will be learned and measures taken which will reduce the impact and the status quo will be restored for a few years until the next outburst. There are underlying problems that don't justify but do explain what has happened.
I don't think it is a racial problem so much as a cultural one. The culture of the uneducated work shy underclass. A lot of the businesses that are being ruined are the same ones being run and worked in by other ethnic minorities, some newly arrived. A lot of the rioting IS being done by 2nd 3rd even 4th generation immigrants but there are vastly more of their contemporaries who aren't rioting but have taken advantage of the education that the tax payers provide and are worked their way up.

This woman is a true Londoner as far as I'm concerned.
Quite bad language used so don't look if that sort of thing offends you

It's very upsetting and I realize not living there that I only know so much. My heart and thoughts go out to all who've been hurt and worse.

I do want to ask that we keep things cool here, as difficult as that can be. I'm not trying to fall into the politically correct side, but I have to remind us all about this forum's guidelines when it comes to political discussions - Terms and rules, etc. If we were sitting somewhere together talking, it would be completely different.

BB feel free to remove my post if it contravenes anything. My intention was to add a balanced calm report from the UK (having lived here long enough to have some local perspective on it) but I quite understand that this site is perhaps not the place to continue the discussion.

All the best

Will is quite right in his opening sentence 'they do it because they can get away with it' what is annoying me is that a Liverpool University Lecture (who is paid by the Tax payer) trying explain away the riots in Liverpool last night.
I'm fed up with these do-gooders who will all blame Police Government and society in general for the rioting by these young thugs or Rent-a-mob yobs, after last night the Jails are now full..so what happens now if it starts again I don't know.

No, Will, what you wrote is fine.

However, I do want to remind us all that we have to be mindful of the site's guidelines. Talking about current events is not a forbidden. It's very difficult when out of control events hit, whether they be natural disasters or man made, let alone all the other horrible things that can and do happen perpetrated by humans upon other humans. I don't hold people's anger against them. I'm listening to the BBC World News right now on my National Public Radio station and am appalled.

We've got Somalia, Syria, Haiti, Japan...places in the states for sure, and so many people and places to be aware of and to care about.

Sometimes I think someone should start a site where we could discuss all this between ourselves. Perhaps this is something that Google + and its circles could be used for, if people wanted to.

Its good to retain a sense of proportion too .. this isn't Syria or Somalia ... it is unpleasant and frightening for those directly affected, but human beings do these things from time to time, it's happened before (go back a few hundred years and you'll find rioting and looting) and no doubt it'll happen again

I believe in 'Chaos theory' where societies are involved,....if chaos CAN happen then it will. Unfortunately, this situation just HAD to happen at some point. Certain groups have worked at undermining English values, culture and community for some decades now. Mulit-culturalism was part of that downgrading of our life style as was making ridicule of British core values by teachers and other with their own axes to grind. Add an increasingly arrogant and exploitive police service and you get to where we are now..........

pdh - Not sure about that

Just spoken to my daughter who lives near Clapham Junction - the Police are "guarding" the Railway Station to protect people trying to get to work from any trouble that may happen

The locals who live there had to barricade their roads and streets to stop the thugs getting at them

"War Zone" are the words being used

London is certainly not Great Britain - I am sorry to say this, but this is socialism working it's course

I have some good friends in London whom I have recently spoken with. One who lives in Hackney has - quite literally - barricaded herself inside her flat for her own saftey, and watched the local shops go up in flames from her window. Whatever is going on, let’s take this as a point of agreement: our capital should not look like a post-apocalyptic film set.
