*Actually, it's a bit more complicated and a lot less healthy than that; the version I'm familiar with is as follows: When students' societies had their weekly drinking rituals call "Stamm", you had to "seal" every glass you drank, regardless of size, with a stiff one. And every "Schnapszahl" of rounds meant an additional round of spirits ... Very dangerous indeed - especially because if you failed to comply when ordered to drink up, you had to down a double ... I'm glad I only know all this from stories some of my relatives used to tell ...
