Fuji The great X100V discussion thread (formerly "specs leaked")

I don't own an x100 camera but I have had GAS for it for a while. I'm a subscriber to some x100 groups on facebook and often see some spectacular photography there. I would go so far as to say the photography I'm seeing in the x100 groups are far more skilled, talented, and spectacular than the photography I'm seeing in the leica groups (by a long mile). And hey, I'm saying that as a leica photographer.
Aha! So there is a camera that makes you a better photographer! I'll get one this afternoon! Or maybe not...

It was more a reference to the Leica demographic - it consists of mostly financially secure older males. The Leica facebook groups are heavily populated with these guys and a fair number of them are posting photos of scantily clad young women over and over and over again. Each time one of them posts these soft porn photos, they're "liked" by the same old men over and over again. You couldn't recommend these Leica groups to other photographers or photography enthusiasts because these Leica groups look like a strip joint. It is quite frankly, embarrassing.

In the meantime over in the X100 groups, these cameras are more affordable and accessible, the members consists of a far more inclusive demographic of various age groups and gender. They're posting great photos of their families, their travels overseas, their everyday lives. They're also far more knowledgeable as a whole when it comes to composition and post-processing.

I've always been impressed with the work done by the people who only shoot with the x100. I look forward to see what Leeland posts in the B&W threads here daily. And try not to let the x100 gas take hold. I had the original x100 and loved shooting with it, and the images it produced.

I just find it so hard to see an image rendered by that camera that's distinctive.

Which actually brings to mind another thought: Just as the new lens in the X100V will hopefully prove a pleasant surprise, it could also be a disappointment. By that, I mean Fuji could potentially cure the technical limitations of the current lens (slow focus speed and slightly soft results at close focus distances) but in doing so eliminate all character from the lens. I'm not sure I would consider that a win.

Thanks for the reference to @Leeland Williams. He has some excellent work with the X100T.

It appears that the 100V will be weather resistant. Sort of.

And, of course the product images leaked ahead of the announcement.

Looking forward to the official announcement. Seriously torn about this camera. Kinda WR, and the viewfinder looks huge compared to my F. BUT, they removed the d-pad and its 4 programmable function buttons. :dash2: I actually use those. A lot. I'll have to see what kind of button re-programming the V has.

Honestly, if my X-Pro3 is anything to judge by, you won't miss the D-Pad.

I use the original film sims and 7 custom film recipes on my F and the X-H1, both cameras are setup the same way. I'd have to shoot RAW only, and have 4 programmable buttons (WB, AF Mode, Metering Mode and ND filter) to keep from having to menu-dive.

I'm way more enthused with this rear design than previous models. For a camera that has all the exposure parameters on physical dials I always felt like the camera has too many buttons, especially for something so unabashedly retro. It still has one or two too many. But it looks much much better than it used to. The OVF also seems a bit easier to use with the circular opening.

According to the Fuji X Summit live feed, the silver will be in stores this month, the black will arrive in March.

While the Dpad is gone. You can program 4 functions as swipes on the touch screen. So, it's not totally gone. But not as convenient as a Dpad.
