Sinterklaas, accompanied by his servant Zwarte Piet, is a traditional Winter holiday figure who brings gifts for the children. He is still celebrated today in the Low Countries, including the Netherlands and Belgium. He is also well known in territories of the former Dutch Empire, including South Africa, Suriname, and Indonesia. He is one of the main sources of the holiday figure of Santa Claus.
Sinterklaas traditionally arrives in the Netherlands each year in mid-November by steamboat from Spain.
These photos are from his arrival in Kijkduin (The Hague). The crowd is there to meet and greet him. Many children are dressed like Sinterklaas or Zwarte Piet. It's a colourful happening in more than one sense! It's good to see that Sinterklaas brings together children and parents of all colours.

Thanks for a wonderful series on my favorite feast / time of the year!(y) I have such fond memories of waiting for Sinterklaas to arrive in Rotterdam, and getting candy from the "real" Zwarte Pieten (Black Pete's)! I still celebrate it with my parents and my friends:)

Great shot Olli. Thanks for letting me know. Just got my NEX C3 and did a panoramic shot of a tower in stitch mode (accidently delted!) it stitched it perfectly and compensated for 'leaning' so in effect became a tilt and shift as well! I could not believe it.

I've done a few panos, though none vertically. Once you judge the speed right they generally turn out very well. It's a very impressive feature. In the skyscraper shot I was far enough back from the building that I was able to get it all in the frame. I did some perspective adjustment in DxO Optics (which is simpler to use for this than LR I've discovered, though LR will do it.).

You can see one of my horizontal panos on the site here.

I am the NEX!!!

I like both these images, I don't think I could choose one as being better than the other, they are both good.
