Sometimes, with some old dolls, I get the feeling that they are hiding the fact that they were secretly watching me just before I took their picture... and that, later (doubtless after midnight) they will leave their display case on head out on some dubious errand.

20 months ago we reluctantly removed a large Red Maple tree from our front yard, a tree we planted as a sapling when our children were very young. It was majestic and beautiful, but its roots were taking over the yard. This weekend, as we have the root ball removed and our yard sculpted for better water flow, we learned just how extensive that root system was.
