So every year around the holidays, because of snow day closings and extended winter break (I work in a school kitchen), one of the onions will sprout, and I then decide to cultivate it, in a soup container with wet napkins and coffee grounds. Over 3 months so far, though the bulb is rather dessicated by now.

John, so glad you asked. It's something called a dryer ball, you put it in the dryer with wet clothes and it pummels them so they don't wrinkle. It's become a granddaughter toy, which she still calls a dryper ball.
How odd. Our dryer balls have spikes all around them (making them look like the depictions of a Covid virus) and you always put two in the machine
