Clint, it makes me really, really angry that there is even ANY homelessness in a country as rich as Australia.

Apparently (The Economist?), we have the highest GDP per capita, AND the highest average household wealth, of all the countries in the world.

Yet successive State governments over the last 40 or so years, have managed to cut public housing by around 40% ... And then blame private landlords for charging rents that represent some return on capital invested.

After all, private landlords are providing public housing at private expense ...

It all sickens me.

I think that at some point in time, we'll have to decide if only grayscale or all tints should go in here; we have (as of now) a separate thread for tints, but it doesn't see much use, and its title could be clearer ("Black & White, monotone and sepia" - including most, but not all types). I wonder what to do - open this thread up for everything or make the "Monochrome with a Tint" (suggested title) thread more visible - i.e. stick it and rename it? I'm more inclined to do the latter to (mostly) preserve current content ...

I'm with you on the "Monochrome with a Tint" option. I'd rather see the pure B&W here.

My preference would be for a catch-all monochrome thread. I tend to think of them all as variations on B&W anyway, especially since very few of the pictures in this thread are actually black and white (with no shades of grey).

Good question. I'd say that infra red is often closer to pure black and white than most pictures in this thread.

No, I'm stating it. Almost all of the pictures are greyscale (and some are toned), not pure black and white. If themes are to be applied rigidly (as was the case with my blue-grey toned picture, but not with other toned pictures, including one just a few pictures later), then they should be applied consistently and accurately.

Yeah, Matt. Clouds are often spectacularly beautiful.

However, when some scientist can explain why that cloud is that shape, at that precise time and place, I will have a lot more time for the opinions of climate "scientists" ...

A smart scientist finally worked out what causes high level, light cloud, just in the last year or so. These clouds have a large effect on the albedo of the planet, and therefore affect climate.

Followed by a whole lot of stuff that you would almost certainly find to be inappropriate, so I have deleted it ...
