A few toss-off shots from the GRD3. Trying to get to know it again, having realized just how MUCH depth of field this camera has, even at wide apertures - hint, its much more than the DOF scale on the camera would ever tell you.... I'm definitely keeping the 3 instead of going for the 4. My other three cams would still be better low light cams than the 4 and I love the 3 in anything but the lowest light anyway. And I like the on-the-fly control over the snap focus... These are mostly just pre-Christmas at a suburban mall, early enough in the day that the full rush hadn't hit yet. And one night shot.
Sorry about the partial decapitation - there's just something poignant about the old guys sitting in the middle of the mall, waiting for their wives to finish shopping. A very common scene... View attachment 46196
This guy is a cab controller at Shenfield Railway Station. He spends Saturday nights in an oversize upright coffin like structure directing cabs all points of the compass.
Hopperesque? A nod towards Nighthawks by the artist Edward Hopper. The scene presented to me was very Nighthawks'ish.
Taken with the GRD3 on it's high contrast b/w setting for max gritty effect. I have deliberately left thick black under exposed portions surrounding the subject to emphasis his isolation.
Bumped into Bruce Gilden of Magnum Photos yesterday. This was in London. Bruce is 65yrs old and still pounding the streets with his unique aggressive in your face style with his Leica and off camera flash ambush tactic.
Not my style but I admire his sphericals of steel.
