So my daughter, who is a Federal Law Enforcement Officer, calls my wife and I tonight.

She works in Washington D.C. and has for some 15 years. As part of her career progression, she had applied for about 6 different positions within the agency, some in big cities, one overseas and one in Raleigh, NC. which she had not told us about.

The most likely candidate was a spot in Philadelphia. While not ideal, it was better than Chicago or Los Angeles, at least in our little minds.

Well lo and behold she got the spot in Raleigh and will be the Senior officer in the office there.

To be kind, she is absolutely elated. She's gotten to the point that the DC rat race has about consumed her. She is the consummate professional and obviously someone recognized this and rewarded her with this position. It's something of a plum as it is really nice area, with a small office and a chance to actually have a life. Evidently the spot was highly sought after.

The interesting part is my son and daughter in law live in Durham, not 20 minutes from Raleigh.

When my wife and I retired in 23, we looked so around and decided to move to Williamsburg, VA which was almost directly in between my daughter in Springfield VA and son in Durham.

So, in all likelihood, we will be selling the house we had built and moving somewhere in the RDU area. Not ideal, but definitely a positive transition. We like Williamsburg, but honestly it isn't ideal for us.

The real challenge at this point is to really do a downsizing this time. We sort of did this last time, but it's difficult to let go of things that you have worked to acquire, so we moved a lot more than we should have.

I've got a garage full of woodworking tools that I spent literally years rehabbing (they are all very old) that I realize now, I'm not really going to be making use of them.

So, a lot of decisions upcoming.

I greatly enjoy the community here, and the photography will never depart me. I've come to consider y'all as my distant family.

Thank all of you for that. It's been very rewarding being part of ths wonderful group.

I'll update this as things progress.

Y'all take care!

Congrats to your daughter. Downsizing is hard, but I’m sure your fellow Camerades would be willing to do our parts and free you of any burdensome photographic gear that is cluttering your life. 😜

I think this is all great news Chris. And I’ve learned recently, that downsizing is about the best exercise I’ve had to do as of late. It really makes you take stock of what’s important, as I moved into the smallest place I’ve had since college, over 20+ years ago. That said, I parted with a ton of woodworking tools I hadn’t used in years, and focused on the two things that matter to me; photography and my audiophile habits. Either way, good luck to you and congrats to your daughter. You’re lucky to be able to be close to your family.

Congratulations to your daughter, Chris.

I hope that Dear Leader, who seems to hate (as distinct from loathe) federal law enforcement officers, doesn't destroy this good news.

Yea, she was telling us about some of the machinations that are currently ongoing with regard to senior management personnel in Federal Law Enforcement organizations.

It's pretty ugly.

She is really pumped about this position.

Previously, she had aspired to executive service, with the goal of being the top of her agency. I know my daughter, if she set her eyes on it, she would give it a right good go.

But this opportunity opened up, and she saw it as an opportunity to transition from what is a 12 hour a day, 7 day a week position, to one with normal working schedule.

The position she is in makes it really difficult to attract suitors because she is just not available.

The new spot will give her the opportunity to enjoy life and perhaps find someone to go through life together with.

We are over the moon for her.
