Bart (bartjeej) has chosen the next theme and offered this explanation.

I'd like "symbol" to be the next theme. It's described by wikipedia as:
"A symbol is something which represents an idea, a physical entity or a process but is distinct from it. The purpose of a symbol is to communicate meaning."

Dunno if this is possible, but if the meaning of the symbol in a photo isn't obvious, I'd like to invite the members to explain it a little bit, or make a riddle out of it, or whatever they feel is necessary to make us think about the meaning of the symbol :)

OK - what are you waiting for - get cracking :p.

Flag of Japan at half mast in mourning at the Japanese Embassy in Ottawa (just up the street from my house). Taken several days after the earthquake and tsunami in Japan.

"X" stands as a stark symbol of our relentless and single-minded need to be at the next place beyond.

P.S., I certainly did not deface this animal in the name of this challenge. I took it how I found it! For those unfamiliar with the practices of native animal rescue, inspected animals are marked to indicate to us other carers that it has been checked and there is no baby left on-board.
