Merlin, the boat is Narrowboat that has been converted to a cruise boat, a Narrowboat is only 7” wide so as to be able to navigate the British canal system! There are also Broadboats which are 10” wide but not all locks will take them!
The green stuff is Canadian Duck weed which is very invasive given the right weather conditions!
There an extensive canal network especially in England and Wales, used to transport cargo before the railways came.
