Thanks very much, Walter, but it isn't actually that difficult - I have my (mostly pre-structured) post processing workflow that, yes, mostly opens up the palette (I privately refer to it as "switching on the light" - think transparency film ...). It's actually pretty simple - and best represented by my tool of choice for the task, Polarr, that allows me to use pre-defined steps for the most part, so usually, I only have to quickly tweak the result of applying my presets (RGB curve, lights and shadows, usually, though I also occasionally do spot removal, adjust colour signature and saturation or dehaze). I think most of what I regularily do is even possible with the free version of the app ...
Oh, and I mostly work with JPEGs - not because I find the RAW process too tedious but because as long as I don't go for the last bit of detail and quality (i.e. as long as I'm going to publish online), it's not necessary. To be sure, most of my images actually print pretty well even from the "online" version. But I don't blow up my stuff a lot - A4 is the biggest I do myself (though I'm tentatively thinking about going to A3+ (borderless A3), but frankly, I don't know where to put the printer ...
