Daily Challenge Today 1609

Wow, I really enjoyed this morning concert. Thanks for sharing, Matt. I would have never come across this otherwise.
NPR's Tiny Desk concerts are legendary - highly recommended if you have some time to spare! It's absolutely amazing what's available (so many fantastic artists, so many strong performances), but at 15 to 25 minutes, they're certainly not what I'd call an opener ...

Something a little different, but ... well, you'll see.

Et ceterum censeo: No pasarán.

What a phenomenal musician, Matt. I'll echo Walter's words and thank you for broadening my muiscal horizons, once again, in ways that, somehow, always seem to matter in interesting ways. En plus, c'est un Belge - and who the hell knew such cool music was happening in Belgium of all places?! Pas moi, certainement. And, yes it's worth listening to the whole thing... because, like so many fine musicians, in each piece different parts of the music and the person appear. (And what about the backup trio of Bulgarian singers! Damn!)

Too true. What's more, I'd never have placed them in Europe's south east upon hearing them. I'd've bet on them being Fins. So, an eye-opener (ear-opener?) for me, too!

I had a few similar moments, Matt, years and years ago, when I heard the recordings of a handful of Finnish musicians whose stylings and vibes were surprisingly close to some Balkan ones. One who comes to mind is the mind-bogglingly brilliant accordion composer and virtuoso player from Finland, Maria Kalaniemi. When I first heard one of her pieces (the one in the link) I was blown away. Take a listen and I think you'll see what I mean (she's worth listening to anyway!)--
