In the garden, the chrysalis of a Monarch butterfly is developing... and if you look closely, you can see the folded up and brightly colored butterfly-waiting-to-be-born inside.

Strangely, instead of establishing itself on one of the nearby milkweed plants, this Monarch caterpillar chose a tomato plant in the garden.

ADDENDUM: it hatched later in the morning. Here are a few pictures of its coming-out-party.

I couldn't resist. This video falls under the "the-apple-doesn't-fall-far-from-the-tree" category, since the two performers are related to me: my son, Rafe, on guitar, accompanying his daughter, Opal, on the fiddle. I feel lucky to be related to them.
Thanks, Miguel - I fell asleep before being able to post yesterday evening and forgot to check this morning.

And another thanks for sharing this!

Another one down: This summer's heat, rain and thunderstorms have knocked down many ... Not only trees, either.

For the third year we have 'la plage' right in the center of our small town for those who are not at the sea-side.
A communal parking space has again been turned into a children's playground (several truckloads of sand).
Deck chairs for the parents and the ice-cream parlor just next to it make it perfect for old and young.

I should mention that I noticed yesterday (9/17) that had not posted in this thread. I went back and found the shot on my phone. I guess I just forgot. I was amused because this expensive planter they built also renamed Lexington.
