This band was from Austin, TX. Back when the song was released, it was noted the song was inspired by a professor the composer had at UT Austin.
I am not sure but believe I had the same professor for a History of France course. He always wore really thick dark glasses. He told the class that he was nearly blind and the dark glasses helped with the dismal florescent light that was in use back then.
Anyway, I know the song was written around the time of another controversial actor/politician in the US that I did not vote for, Ronald Reagan! Good choice Matt.
