A minor technical note: the Stylus 1S's capabilities for manual fine-tuning one's focus are invaluable when trying to shoot birds hidden inside shrubs and bushes: the camera's normally excellent and rapid AF can easily get confused by the multiple focus possibilities on the extreme telephoto end, but MF is helpful, on the rare occasions when one's subject is willing to sit still for a few fractions of a second.
