This is from Fir Island in Skagit County. It is an agricultural area on the delta island of the Skagit River. There is typically a large population of transient and overwintering waterfowl in the area at this time of year. They don't always cooperate by being this close to the highway.

The geese spook more easily than the swans I saw last week. Hundreds will suddenly take to wing and circle nervously when an eagle buzzes the field. It's exhilarating to witness!
