You guys are keeping me on my toes today; "tombola" is the second word I had to lookup this afternoon. Around here we have similar games at fairs but usually just called some deviation of a raffle.
The other word was "vouchsafed"; it's one of those things where I was thinking I knew that quote from somewhere but couldn't recall what "vouchsafed" meant or at least what it meant fully.
I must admit that the definition I am reading for vouchsafe makes me want to NOT use it. It seems like it can mean two OPPOSITE things (!)
So it can either mean to give something in a gracious way or it means to give something in a condescending way. I always thought the point of using exotic, big words was so that you could find a word with a VERY SPECIFIC meaning.

Ever dig deep into stuff like Shakespeare's works? It's one of the reasons why I think I watch/read so much British stuff, because you have to think twice about "Wait, is he paying that person a compliment or insulting them? "
It's kind of like a person from the US South saying "Bless your heart" to somebody.
