Gotta love that 'rack and pinion' steering set up.
I think that would be called a worm and pinion, but fascinating variation, nonetheless.

My old 24/80 Wolseley and 1968 Toyota Landcruiser both had a variation on that, worm and ball steering.

Pretty crude when compared with the system in our Subarus, which is variable ratio, variable hydraulic power assist, rack and pinion steering. Patented by Jaguar originally. Later Subarus use a similar system, but using electronic power assist. The later system feels 'dead' by comparison with the Jaguar system.
