My dream lens would be a short fast telephoto with a really close focusing distance. Rule of thumb is being able to shoot stuff in front of me at a late-night diner..
Constant f2.8 throughout the zoom range without being as huge as the WR zoom would be nice. Would make a good lens for everything from landscape to portraits.
Afraid not. If you want more light to hit the sensor you have to have a bigger hole. If you have a bigger hole you have to have a bigger lens. There's no way around this one.
^ Was my understanding as well. F2.8 & 16-55 = current size, or at least that size +/- a few %, depending on WR or not. Maybe something smaller could be made, but with optical problems due to fewer elements...? Not something this company would actually put out, in other words. Their XF glass has to be pretty minty crisp, period.
